Nyjah Huston – DC Shoes Fade To Black (2013)
Haters gonna hate.
When you open your part with a 9 kink handrail, 5-0 through a long double kinked rail by the 5th trick and absolutely body yourself trying to crooked grind a 20 stair rail just over a minute into a 6 minute part, you’re going to get a lot of attention. Nyjah Huston has had everyone’s attention since he was likkle yoot. Fade To Black was his solo DC Shoes part that took him out of the skatepark and into the streets to wreck shop.
Fade To Black has all of the undertones of something epic. The Metallica song is a telltale sign that DC Shoes (read Danny Way) are unveiling something special. Of course the spots of choice are handrails – surprisingly not so many gaps – but there are still some very nice lines and ledge tricks peppered around in there too. The long kickflip backside nosegrind nollie heelflip out rings a bell as does the line ending with a fakie hardflip fakie 5-0.
Nyjah is a calculated killer. He doesn’t flinch when he leaps on railings that have more than enough potential to probably kill or maim him. Today, we are anaesthetised to watching kids jump on massive rails but Nyjah has been doing this for over ten years already and he doesn’t seem to have slowed down. Gnarly bastard.
