Tim Westwood Radio 1 Rap Show Christmas 1995 feat. Funkmaster Flex

This tape right here is special. I’ve been holding back for quite a while from uploading this because it’s full rad stuff for rap fans to nerd out on. Broadcasting live from New York City, Tim Westwood presented his weekend Rap Show for Radio 1 with Bounce Squad kingpin Funkmaster Flex on the decks and a swathe of hot emcees passing through the studio to drop exclusive freestyles.

There are three main things that I love about this tape:

– Funkmaster Flex dropping the hot gossip about the infamous incident that saw the West Coast Dogg Pound getting chased out of New York after recording their diss track New York New York in Times Square.

– Interviews and freestyles from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Smoothe Da Hustla, Trigga Da Gambla, The Fugees and Lord Finesse.

– Funkmaster Flex dropping an anthology mix of classic samples and rap anthems with particular inspiration from Michael Jackson’s Remember the time.*

* This was recorded live off the radio and as live recordings go, there is one slight glitch where I almost lost the radio channel for a few seconds around the 19m45s mark. Real recognise real.
