When the Fonky Family dropped their debut album , Si Dieu Le Veut.., it was a slap in the face. A French super group from Marseille had delivered 18 tracks that were on par with the best sounds coming out of Hip Hop’s Mecca New York in the mid-90’s. It was grimy and raw and there was a deep source of energy in each rapper’s lyrics. I can still listen to the album today and get as hyped as I was when I first played it.
Here are a couple of documentaries, one about the group and the other about one of the figureheads of the group Le Rat Luciano.
